AFC Championship Chiefs vs. Ravens odds preview

This is business as usual for KC as Mahomes and Co. are playing in their sixth straight AFC Championship Game. The Chiefs have gone on to play in three of the last four Super Bowls, winning twice.

Sunday, however, will mark the first road AFC title game among Kansas City’s six as the Ravens earned the conference’s No. 1 seed by compiling the league’s best regular-season record (13-4).

Meanwhile, coach John Harbaugh’s squad is playing for the AFC crown for the first time since the 2012-13 season when the Joe Flacco/Ray Lewis-led Ravens won it all.

After struggling through a relative down cycle for most of the season, K.C.’s offense has stepped things up in the playoffs, scoring a combined 53 points in wins over the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills.

Sunday’s matchup, though, features much tougher competition with the Baltimore defense surrendering the league’s fewest points per game (16.5). And that average doesn’t include the Ravens’ 34-10 divisional-round romp last weekend as Offensive Rookie of the Year favorite C.J. Stroud and the Texans’ offense were kept out of the end zone.

It’ll be another strength-vs.-strength matchup when the Ravens have the ball. Jackson and Co. ranked fourth in the regular season in scoring offense (28.4 ppg) while the Kansas City defense were second with only 17.3 points permitted per outing.

Baltimore, though, looks like it’ll get a big boost with Friday’s activation of All-Pro tight end Mark Andrews off the injured reserve list.

And as of late in the week, the Ravens were consensus 4-point favorites (-200 moneyline) Sunday with a game total hovering around 44.5 points.

AFC Championship Chiefs vs. Ravens best bet: Ravens -3.5 (-115 or better)

The Chiefs’ big-game experience advantage and Mahomes’ career 8-3 straight-up and 9-1-1 against-the-spread records as an underdog are very tempting.

But the Ravens have been the better team this season. And they’ve proven it repeatedly with a league single-season-record 11 wins (against four losses) vs. opponents with winning marks.

The Chiefs have taken advantage of injury-riddled Miami and Buffalo defenses so far this postseason. But Baltimore’s will prove too tough to crack with any regularity, and Jackson and Co. will do the rest to propel Baltimore to the cover and back into the Big Game.

AFC Championship Chiefs vs. Ravens top player prop: Lamar Jackson over 64.5 rushing yards (-120 or better)

Typically, the higher the stakes, the more players rely on their strengths.

That’s certainly been the case with Jackson utilizing his legs in the postseason as the Ravens’ QB has averaged 13 rushing attempts and 93.4 ground yards in five career playoff games.

The latest was his 11-carry, 100-yard performance last weekend against the Texans — Jackson’s third 100-yard rushing game in the postseason.

The Chiefs’ defense, meanwhile, allowed the 10th-most rushing yards (20.1 per game) to opposing QBs during the regular season and struggled to contain Buffalo’s Josh Allen, who rambled for a team-high 72 yards and two TDs in K.C.’s tight, 27-24 win last Sunday.
